Liturgy of the Word with Children (LWC) is offered during 10:30 am Sunday Mass most Sundays of the year from September to June.  All children age three and up are welcome to attend. No registration is necessary and parents are more than welcome to come along and “check-it-out”.

After the Opening Prayer, the children are called forward by the priest. The Children’s Lectionary is passed to one of the participants, usually an adult or youth leader, and the group is sent with a blessing to reassemble in Bader Hall.

What happens at Liturgy of the Word with Children? Once the group reassembles in Bader Hall, an adult leader welcomes the children, lights a candle on the prayer table, and begins with a short prayer. The readings for that particular Sunday, the same readings as the congregation will hear in the main assembly, are then proclaimed from the Children’s Lectionary, an adapted version of the Sunday Lectionary. After the readings, the leader directs the children in an interactive talk based on the Gospel and using elements from modern life to help them understand.

The children return to the main assembly to rejoin their families at the Procession of the Gifts so that the congregation is united for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
