Lauds and Vespers

The Liturgy of the Hours or Divine Office or Work of God is the official set of prayers “marking the hours of each day and sanctifying the day with prayer”.  It consists primarily of psalms, hymns, readings and other prayers and antiphons.  Together with the Celebration  of the Eucharist it has formed part of the Church’s public worship from the earliest times.  Lauds takes place in the early morning hours while Vespers is the sunset evening prayer.
